Valentine Roti has been operating in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia for almost 20 years and it is regarded as one of the BEST places to have the famous ‘Roti Canai’ flatbread.
The restaurant is owned and operated by South Indian chefs and they make the roti with amazing finesse. The softness and fluffiness of the roti they make cannot be described by words, you need to try it yourself. The two main types of Flatbread which caught my eye are the Roti Canai and the Roti Tissue.
The Roti Canai, is a soft flatbread which is extremely popular in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. This type of bread is influenced by the Indian flatbread and invented by South Indian people who migrated to the Malay region. Typically the bread is served with a few curry sauces. You can also upgrade it by ordering side dishes of Chicken or Mutton.
I have tried Roti Canai at multiple restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore, but Valentine Roti serves the softest Roti Canai I have tasted so far.

Roti Tissue, also known as the ‘Roti Helicopter’ is another popular flatbread available at Valentine Roti. The taste is similar to that of the Roti Canai, but this one is bigger in size and is prepared in a different method.
A large dough of Roti is placed on the pre-heated stove and as soon as it starts to shape up, the chef picks it up with his index and thumb and turns it into a large ’tissue-like’ figure. This Roti is also served with your choice of curry sauces.

BONUS: Nasi Goreng
Just out of sheer curiosity, I also ordered the Nasi Goreng (Malay style chicken fried rice) on my second visit to Valentine Roti and it turned out to be pretty decent. I suggest you try it, if you still have some space left for more food after you’re done with the ‘Roti’s.
